Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan, simply known as Wat Arun or the "Temple of Dawn," is one of Bangkok's most iconic landmarks, instantly recognizable by its dazzling, spire-like central pagoda that gracefully dominates the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. Its dramatic silhouette is especially breathtaking at sunrise or sunset, when the first or last rays of light catch its surface, earning it the evocative name.The temple's history stretches back to the Ayutthaya period, and for a brief time under King Taksin the Great, it served as the royal temple and housed the Emerald Buddha before the capital moved to Bangkok.
